GUITAR FESTIVAL of VERVIERS, BE

With the Guitar Festival of Verviers, organizers Jacques Stotzem and Francis Geron aim to make their town the capital of the guitar in Belgium. Its program was as usual very varied and represented many different styles. This year the festival ran from March 5 through 15.

On Thursday March 15, 2007, at 8 p.m., Raphaella Smits played a classical recital in the Grand Théâtre de Verviers, Rue des Artistes 2 in 4800 Verviers.

More information about the festival at their website.

The town of Verviers is situated in Wallonie, the french-speaking, southern half of Belgium.
The whole region suffered in December 1944 from the last attack in World War II known as the Battle of the Bulge (or the Von Runstedt Offensive, or La Bataille des Ardennes).

The American cemetery of Henri-Chapelle where 7992 soldiers rest, is one of the sad souveniers of that period.
